Raw Mom – Journey through pregnancy

Twenty-seven weeks pregnant today, which is the
official transition into my third trimester. It’s the 17th Jan and
our due date is 17th April, so it’s exactly three months to go!

I was never broody, I just knew that the time
was now. I am loving being pregnant, the whole process is completely magical, mysterious
and wonderous!

I’ve wanted to keep a regular pregnancy blog of what I’m
discovering along this raw path, as this whole new world unfolds before me. Well,
it’s a New Year, new beginnings and I’m finally sitting down to type.

I found out I was pregnant the day after our Rawlicious
DVD launch evening. I intuitively knew already but I didn’t want to do the test
until after the launch was over. I remember the first thing I thought when
lying in the bath that evening and turning my attention inwards was: ‘I am not
the only being inhabiting my body’. I found it a strange thought to
contemplate.

Balanced hormones

The ease with which I fell pregnant is part of
the gift of a balanced body and hormonal system. Peter and I researched the
pill early on in our relationship and decided it was not an option for us, so
fortunately my body’s cycles have been spot on, clockwork and balanced for over
12 years already. It seemed that as soon as we flicked the switch from ‘No,
we’re not ready’, to ‘Yes’ – the body responded immediately :)

The weekend before I fell pregnant I did a three-day
liquid juice fast with two days of enemas and a lot of emotional clearing – I
knew I was getting my body ready for something special.

The raw gift

I started my raw journey at the beginning of 2006
so my body has had more than six years of high quality, super nutrition with no
artificial hormonal interference. As this pregnancy is progressing I am getting
a deeper and deeper sense of appreciation for the care I’ve taken with my body
over these years. It seems as though I am bypassing or simply stepping over a
lot of issues that many pregnant women suffer with, without even noticing.

A boy or a girl?

Everyone keeps asking if we know what we’re having.
We don’t – we want it to be a surprise :)

Doing it differently

I’ve heard that for many people, as soon as
they find out they are pregnant they get washed over with advice and
suggestions from well-meaning and caring family, friends, doctors, gynaes etc.
Ironically, I’ve found that most people have just let us get on with it. I
think everyone assumes that because we eat so differently, we’re going to do
the parenting thing ‘our way’.  I’ve
found this to be a real blessing, which is giving me an opportunity to tune into
my intuition, my body, baby and find my own way. I have wonderful role models,
guides, parents, friends and information resources to tap into when I feel I
need to. Peter is amazing and is burrowing into all different aspects of the
natural parenting world. There’s so much ‘out there’ that I’ve also had to
release to the flow and the awareness that what I need to know is right here.

Here are some of the areas I have touched upon exploring

    Hi Beryn,
Congrats on your pregnancy! Just found out a few days ago that we are +- 5 weeks pregnant. Really looking forward to the rest of you pregnancy blogs. I am not 100% raw or vegan, but do enjoy daily juicing as well as sprouting and growing our own seeds. I would love to know your take on wheat grass shots during pregnancy, I do enjoy my daily shot, but could only find contradicting information on the internet. I grow my own wheat grass, but they tend to get fluffy white mold, especially during these warm summer days! Is it still safe to drink the juice shots if cut way above the mold? Thanks!

    Congrats on your pregnancy!
I so look forward to reading more about your journey. Beryn, excuse the absolute ignorance and question which may seem stupid, but what means of contraception did you use as I am also so against the pill?
    Take care :)
