Green Smoothie

I first heard of the green smoothie concept during a short dvd of Victoria Boutenko’s. She and her entire family went raw overnight when they all came down with various life-threatening diseases in the same year. Getting a wide variety of green leaves into the diet is essential if you are going to succeed with a raw lifestyle. Making green smoothies was one of their tricks for getting in high volumes of greens easily. We’ve experimented with many different varieties. These are our favourites:

Option 1 (Serves 2)

250 ml water
1 banana
1 kiwi fruit
1 C tightly packed spinach
5 pitted dates or dried figs
1⁄2 - 1 T honey, depending on your taste for sweetness

Blend and serve.

Option 2 (Serves 2)

250 ml water
1⁄2 pineapple
1 small lemon
1 C tightly packed mixed green leaves
1 sprig mint or buchu

Blend and serve.
